Content leads to action

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Maintaining and creating good content within your site will help keep your business stable and profitable over time. With a little persistence your traffic will only naturally increase as you add more pages.

Just make sure that your content clearly defines the products or services and then finally lead your visitor to the desired page where they will either find a solution or take some action whether it be a product or to sign up on a RSS feed.

When you begin to create a new page remind yourself to reinforce your keyword phrases and overall site theme. Try to optimize and organize your content in such a way that one page defines the next.

SEO Tip: Use formated internal links to steer the visitor to the most revelant page they are looking for. Your anchor text must clearly define the content of the resulting page.

Free keyword research tool

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

Keyword research is perhaps the easiest SEO task you can get started on. A free tool to try with a some real nice features is Wordpot.com. It uses a similar database like Wordtracker, KeywordDiscovery and other keyword tools and pulls searches from different search engines.

Wordpot offers both Exact Daily and Total Daily searches and I think you will find the results to be very much like the other popular Keyword Tools. Wordpot is free and a great little keyword research tool.

Optimizing anchor text

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Optimizing your anchor text the right way will make your website easily searchable on search engines such as Google and make it navigatable by your visitors as well. The main role of the anchor text is to provide clear path for the Search Engines and allow your visitors to find information on your website quickly as they jump from page to page while scanning for useful content.

Anchor text refers to the hyper linked text on a web page that internally links other pages on the website. Anchor text can be used in many different places on your pages including main menu navigation, side links and within the content of your text.

When optimize properly, anchor text can really boost your website’s rankings. The anchor text serves one promary function and that is to describe what the resulting page will be before clicking it. Use 2-3 keywords that best describes this page and make sure that these keywords relate directly to the resulting page.

When you internally link your website in this manner your site will natural become more relevant and rank well over time.

SEO Tip: Keep your website as human friendly as possible and not only develop it from the search engine point of view. Avoid the overuse of the same keywords and phrases. Use archors which make sense and flow with your content. Continually mix them into your site whenever appropriate.

Optimizing Titles in WordPress

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Although the Title tag isn’t really a meta tag it remains one of the most imporant factors when it come to your rankings. Its located at the top of your html code between the head tags along with other meta tags you choose to include.

Google will also occasionally use the description tag when related content can’t be found so its always a good idea to create this as well.

SEO Tip: I highly recommend a great plugin for WordPress called the All in One SEO Pack which will handle both of these tags, and overrides the Titles created by Wordpress. It also automatically updates your header info so you don’t have to mess with any code.

Simple SEO- Build your pages naturaly

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

I strongly believe in ranking a website using straight forward and simple SEO techniques. For the longevity and health of your site I believe your much better off spending time building good content rather than wasting time using “black hat” methods.

In other words when you build you pages naturaly and skip submitting sites to hundreds of directories, adding hidden text, script redirects ect… you will entually end up on the front page for certain search terms.

Using this simple SEO and natural approach I have yet to submit a site to Google. When you build your pages naturaly you will be automatically rewarded with good traffic and external links.
