I have been experimenting with different blogging software over the last 4 or 5 years and have come to the conclusion that Wordpress is definitely the way to go. Wordpress has a huge following and hundred of plug-ins and starter templates. Best of all it’s perfect for both blogging or even building and maintaining entire websites.
Wordpress allows you to publish and maintain your site through a intuitive web-based interface. Articles (also called entries) automatically organize and categorize themselves by topic or date.
By customizing the various templates within Wordpress you can change the look-and-feel of your website very easily. If setup correctly content managers like Wordpress allow you to automatically improve your search engine rankings and ultimately receive more traffic.

WordPress provides a easy way to create and maintain an entire website. Although WordPress may look like a blogging tool it can be easily customized to look just like any other site.

One of the big advantages of Wordpress is that you can swap the look and feel of your site in just a few minutes. Wordpress uses what are called themes which consists of stylesheets and templates.
Installing a hteme is relatively a simple task. The installation process can be broken down this way:
- Download & unzip the theme file
- Upload the theme to your website
- Activate the theme
Using a FTP client you simply navigate through WordPress to where the plugins are located: wp-content/themes/ and copy the entire theme folder there.
Activate the theme is very straight forward. After logging into Wordpress, go to your dashboard and locate the themes section. You will be presented with a list of themes. Locate the new theme and click on it.

Installing WordPress is extremely easy and its totally free. It’s no wonder why Wordpress is the number one blogging platform today. Here’s a rundown on the steps you will need to take.
- Use a web host like Media Temple or similar with a one-click installer
- Create a database by giving it a name.
- Login to Wordpress
- Change auto-generated password
- View new site
